Green Grads Grab #9

Last Saturday registration opened for Facebook vanity URLs. Vanity URLs are special URL addresses (eg. http://www.blah.com) that contain a special name that you have chosen for yourself. So instead of being http://www.facebook.com/aljfatte/ you could become http://www.facebook.com/john.smith

However, they’ve been open for a while now and it was done in a ‘land rush’ fashion, first come first served. So if you have a common name and didn’t get in quick, chances are someone else has taken the URL you want. Still, check it out and see.

Young lawyers might be interested in Matt Homan’s 10 Rules of the New Web.

An American blog a lot like ours, the Young Lawyers Blog, has written a four part series that asks Summer Associates (these are the equivalent of our Vacation Clerks) a number of questions as they finished their internships.

The answers are interesting and they might come in handy if you are ever asked similar questions in an interview.

Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV

More law outsourcing stuff – the Law Librarian Blog (which is actually a lot cooler than its name might lead you to believe) says that some of the US Law Schools are ‘meeting secretly’ (see, its already cool) to consider outsourcing some of their services.

It would be interesting to see if any Australian Law Schools try it out.

Lifehacker suggest you create some kind of record to show which applications you have sent out and when. It’s a good idea.

Above the Law found this great service that was linked to on the Legal Writing Prof Blog. Some clever kid is selling corrupted files. Students then send these corrupted files to their lecturers as their assessments. When the lecturer gets around to marking the assessment, then ‘oh no, it’s corrupted. Better send it again’.

You’ve just bought yourself an extra week to complete your assignment.

Of course, not all Australian universities will accept assessments via email. What’s more, now that we’ve valiantly exposed such an evil scheme with our bulldog like investigation I doubt it would work even if you could email in your assignments.

Funny idea, though.

Legal Geekery have come up with a cool list of Podcasts that law students might want to follow. Unfortunately they’re intended for US students but we might try to come up with a more Australian list later in the week.

Good luck with the rest of your exams, team!
